'BRICK'
The rapid growth of the construction industry has provided a number of challenges, not least is the use of materials and process which are harmful to the environment and have accelerated the pace of climate change. Georgia sadly plays its own part in that and we, architects, have a responsibility.
To answer these challenges, we designed IA Bricks. Made in adobe - the material well known to the world and Georgian vernacular architecture, these two universal forms of IAS and IAM fit together easily, require no fasteners or fillers. It allows easy construction of exterior double and interior single partition walls, where door and window openings are easy to arrange. Because of low heat transfer coefficient it does not require additional insulation.
The first prototypes of the IA bricks were produced within the workshop: 'Adobe Brick - Research, New Design and Prospects for Use in Modern Construction’
IA Adobe Bricks are made by mixing earth and water with sand and hay added for strength. Its colors are natural and are obtained from soils from the regions of Georgia. It is created in response to the challenges in modern architecture and construction and with the idea of improving the unsustainable building environment resulting disasters. It’s a call for the architects to rethink what it is now Modern Architecture and discuss the environment and local politics.
While the process of transforming IA Bricks into a building material is at the initial stage and the research process is ongoing, we used its forms to create collectible furniture 'BRICK COLLECTION'.
*Research is currently underway. The finished piece will be published soon.
